Greetings from Lansing Mural

In 2015, the Design Committee of Downtown Lansing Inc. was awarded a grant for a “Greetings from Lansing” mural in downtown Lansing’s Stadium District on behalf of the City of Lansing.

Goals for this mural were to create a dynamic placemaking contribution to the cityscape, to create community and civic pride for Lansing residents, and to welcome and attract visitors to downtown. The mural replicates a vintage postcard that welcomes residents, workers and visitors alike into the Capital City. A tag line of “Alive after 5” has been incorporated to signify that viewers are in the midst of downtown’s entertainment and cultural district. The mural is 12’ x 28’ and will be lit at night, adding to the transformation of downtown Lansing after sundown.

This original mural, painted by colorblind Michigan artist Mathew Sharum, utilized significant technology for assistance during the creation of the mural. Sharum has also painted murals through-out the Midwest, most notably a 2,400 square foot mural that was created for a Kid Rock music video in Detroit.

This project was made possible by a grant from the Lansing Economic Area Partnership and was funded by the PNC Bank Foundation.
